Overview

The Protein Scientist will assist in product design and characterization, analytical method development and validation of protein products for Essent Biologics for both research and clinical use. The successful candidate is required to be adept at protein isolation, purification, characterization, quantitation and data analysis. The position will assist in process development both for the manufacture and monitoring of product from sample preparation through finished product. This position reports to an executive level role.

 

Pay:  $68,828 - $102,449/yr based on relevant years of experience.

Bonus:  10% target Bonus Program based on individual and company metrics.

Shift:  Monday-Friday; 8:00am – 5:00pm

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop methods and perform various protein techniques including chromatography, dialysis, filtration, polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis/WB, UV- Vis spectroscopy
  • Develop methods of manufacture for extraction, purification, quantitation and storage of native proteins derived from various human tissues, especially collagen
  • Be familiar with aseptic techniques and mammalian cell culture methodologies and provide technical expertise in identification and characterization of cell surface and secreted proteins
  • Provide input to and participate in product development quality and regulatory activities
  • Analyze data, evaluate results, form conclusions and provide/implement process or document improvements.
  • Adhere to and promote proper practices and techniques which are consistent with current operating procedures, training requirements, safety practices and company policies
  • Contribute to project related scientific/technical activities under minimal guidance. Make suggestions to improve work processes
  • Plan projects and/or experiments, provide process updates and design experiments. Support special projects or assignments as required
  • Prepare and deliver presentations of project results to internal team and/or external collaborators
  • Analyze operational and cost impacts of process/product improvements
  • May perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in biochemistry, protein engineering, protein chemistry or related field
  • 5+ years’ wet laboratory experience
  • Hands-on protein purification experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Familiarity with ISO9000 or cGMPs
  • PhD in biochemistry, protein engineering, protein chemistry or related field
  • 2+ years’ biologic or drug industry experience
  • Mass spectrometry experience
  • HPLC experience
  • FTIR experience
  • Protein structural imaging
  • Collagen manufacturing
